PÊCHE À PIED

With family or friends, what more enjoyable activity than fishing on foot? When the sea recedes, what a pleasure it is to be able to scratch around in the sand or rocks! You'll discover a fabulous world of shellfish, crustaceans and seaweed, a fragile environment full of curiosities and discoveries!

In Saint-Brevin, boucauds (grey shrimps) are fished at ebb tide. Cockles and clams can be discovered by scraping the sand. To the south of the resort, while étrilles (small seaside crabs) hide under the rocks, you'll need patience to find barnacles and periwinkles.

Our top tips:

Before you go fishing:

- Find out about the sanitary quality of your fishing site:

by contacting us
by consulting the information displayed in front of our tourist offices or at the entrance to the beaches
by visiting the prefecture's website.

- You can also check the tide tables to find out when the best times to fish are!

- Make sure your boots or shoes are water and rock resistant and provide good foot support.

- Bring landing nets, a bucket or basket for fishing and the right fishing tools (Authorised tools: 3-toothed scraper, clam-fishing knife, etc.).

- Make sure you have the correct tools for measuring the size of shellfish (on sale at our tourist offices). To find out more about the size regulations in force.

- Check the weather forecast and avoid going out in fog or thunderstorms.

- Let your friends and family know when you are leaving and where you will be fishing, and keep a watch or mobile phone.

After fishing :

- Eat the shellfish the same day

- Dispose of dead, broken or foul-smelling shellfish.

A few rules for more sustainable fishing:

Too small = don't touch them... leave them to grow, a good opportunity to come back!

Always return anything you move to its original position to preserve the biodiversity associated with it.

Lift stones without turning them over

I leave the females carrying eggs.

I only catch what I need & within the authorised quantities.

Check the periods during which fishing is authorised, as the resource needs to be renewed so that fishing can continue.

Accompanied fishing trips :

Several times a year, the Saint-Brevin tourist office organises outings with an Échos Nature guide to learn how to fish for prawns. Don't hesitate to check the dates in our diary!

Happy fishing!
