L'île de Versailles A Japanese garden, a house dedicated to the river Erdre
A place of relaxation and leisure since its development by the Dulieu-Soulard team in 1987, the Ile de Versailles was originally a marsh. The island was created in 1831 as part of the work to build the Nantes-Brest canal. The heart of the island is home to a Japanese-inspired tea garden. It reveals a series of landscapes that change with the seasons. In the traditional tea house, the Maison de l'Erdre, you can discover the life of the plants and fish that inhabit the Erdre, including around twenty species of fish in aquariums. Around the island, the heart of Nantes' boating and watersports scene beats. The quays are very lively in fine weather, and even more so in late August and early September when the Rendez-vous de l'Erdre jazz festival takes over the banks.
