Randonnée "De Saint-Ambroise à Chanzeaux"
In Chanzeaux, a commune of Chemillé-en-Anjou, the Saint-Ambroise trail offers a 6.3-kilometre family loop. Signposted in yellow, it takes around two hours to walk through the hedged farmland and along the banks of the Hyrôme.
The route starts at the Poizeaux area, a landscaped area on the edge of the village with picnic tables and facilities for relaxing. From the first few metres, the path leads away from the dwellings and into denser vegetation. The path follows the meandering course of the Hyrôme, a tributary of the Layon, whose current flows for part of the way under the cover of the trees. The walk is punctuated by rural heritage features that bear witness to local history. You can see the structures of old mills, such as the Moulin du Chapitre and the Moulin Peltier, remnants of the hydraulic activity of yesteryear. The route then leads to the hamlet of Saint-Ambroise, home to a small chapel nestling among the hedgerows. On this part of the route, you can observe the traditional architecture of the Mauges, characterised by the use of local stone.
The route also crosses open areas, between meadows and crops, and passes close to the Délin pond. The paths are lined with oak and ash trees, offering transitions between shady areas and open spaces. The gradient remains moderate, making this outing accessible to families and walkers looking for a route with no technical difficulties.
At the end of the loop, the path offers a view of the village of Chanzeaux and its church, whose silhouette dominates the valley. This walk is an opportunity to observe the diversity of the Anjou countryside, with its mix of aquatic environments and farmland, in the calm of the countryside around Chanzeaux.
