Autour du Montreteau

Situated on the Bonnétable plateau, the village of Dehault developed in the Montreteau valley in the Middle Ages as a result of the clearing of the Hallais forest. The small village of Dehault, located on the hillside, has preserved a high-quality built heritage, including a church dating back to the Romanesque period, old craftsmen's houses, a former 18th-century presbytery (now the town hall) and, nearby, the late 15th-century manor house (privately owned). Isolation from the main communication routes limited development to the agricultural economy until the present day. As a result, the population has been dwindling for almost two centuries, but the village offers a privileged setting for its inhabitants and lovers of unspoilt countryside.
