LE THEATRE - SIMONE VEIL
Théâtre Scène nationale
Inaugurated in 1867, ten years after the opening of the Paris-Saint-Nazaire line, the station combines two styles typical of the late 19th century: a classical style imitating ancient architecture and a modern style. Damaged but not completely destroyed during the war, the station remained in service until 1955, when the new SNCF station was inaugurated. In 1978, the town acquired the remaining buildings.
In 1988, a business incubator was set up in the restored east wing.
In 2012, the station became the Théâtre de Saint-Nazaire, a national stage.
It is one of 74 national stages in the Ministry of Culture network. The programme is multidisciplinary: theatre, dance, music, circus, etc. Each year it puts on around fifty shows for around a hundred performances.
