Prieuré de la Jaillette
Founded in the 12th century, La Jaillette priory is a rare example of a Romanesque monastery in Anjou. It is set in the heart of a pretty village in the Anjou Bleu region, between Le Lion d'Angers and Segré.
Founded in the 12th century in Louvaines, the priory of La Jaillette is organised according to a plan similar to that of an abbey, structured in a square around a cloister. The church occupies the north side, while to the east is the chapter house, topped by the dormitory. To the south, the refectory and kitchen wing, converted into a manor house in the 15th century, completes the monastic complex. In the centre, the Romanesque cloister is the most remarkable feature of the site. Today, the southern bay and part of the eastern bay remain. The Jaillette priory is a unique example of a Romanesque cloister in the Pays de la Loire region, making it a major regional heritage monument.
The site is accessible by reservation and open to the public according to a calendar of events. Up-to-date information is available on the priory's dedicated page.
