Presentation of: Foret domaniale de Berce
Classified as an exceptional forest, it is the jewel in the crown of French forestry. With 3,000 hectares of oak and 2,400 hectares of coniferous trees, it produces much sought-after quality timber, in particular oaks over 200 years old that are highly sought-after for cooperage. In July 2022, its regular oak forest was included in the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage. The Bercé forest is an ideal place for walking, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking (280 km of signposted trails). 3 signposted footpaths invite you to discover it: "A l'école de la forêt": a 1? hour family loop, "sentier du Vivier": a 2? hour loop between hedged farmland and forest and the "sentier de la futaie des clos", which you can discover via an app you can download onto your smartphone. DO NOT VISIT THE FOREST ON HUNTING DAYS (MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS FROM THE END OF SEPTEMBER TO THE END OF FEBRUARY) or walk through active workcamps. Guided group tours on request. Maps of the forest and footpaths available from Carnuta and the Loir Valley Tourist Office.
