Musée d'Art et d'Histoire
This treasure trove of art and history has been housed in a former shopping centre since 1993.
Art and its evolution from the 16th century to the present day: the tour begins with the main genres of academic painting and gradually moves on to contemporary art. Since October 2017, a room has been dedicated to Cholet artist François Morellet, whose work has won him international acclaim, including an exhibition in New York - his life's dream. He is also one of only 4 artists to have entered the Louvre in their lifetime. The history of Cholet, from the Gallo-Roman era to the First World War: the gallery is packed with archive documents, paintings, sculptures, archaeological objects, weapons and more, and takes you back in time to Cholet's heyday, with a special focus on the Vendée Wars.
Tip: every year, from 1 October to 31 May, the Cholet Museums are free on Saturdays for everyone!
