Le joyau de Courtanvaux

A walking trail to discover the Courtanvaux estate, its castle and wooded areas.

Bessé dates back to the Middle Ages. At that time, the parish was home to a number of fiefdoms, including Courtanvaux, a parish lordship that became a marquisate in 1609. The town developed mainly from the 18th century onwards thanks to the establishment of pre-industrial sites, as evidenced by the cotton factory set up by Elie Savatier in 1735 (on the site of a former stamen manufacturing facility) and the paper mill created on the La Roche site in 1824. The latter has since become the town's main industrial site.

Map and full description of the route available in the Guide Rando du Perche Sarthois (50 routes).
