At the heart of these magical landscapes, the Ile aux Mimosas offers a wealth of wonderful nature-based activities. Here, we focus on 5 that allow you to discover or rediscover Noirmoutier "The Tranquil"!

1) Travel aboard an old sailing ship

The wonderful O'Abandonado sailing ship was originally a Portuguese coaster used for transporting salt. From Easter to All Saints' Day, it now hosts aspiring mariners keen to enjoy a little boat trip or day-long excursion aboard around the Ile du Pilier. Fishing trips are also available, with participants taking home their mackerel catch afterwards.

2) Reach the island via a fleeting route

Instead of arriving on the island via the bridge, take the Gois passage, a long 4.5 km road that is totally submerged at high tide and can only be crossed when the sea subsides. At low tide, clam diggers poke around this globally unique site, while cars arriving from Beauvoir-sur-Mer take advantage of this golden opportunity to drive across the tarmac strip.

3) Enjoy a Noirmoutier potato cake

In the fields of Noirmoutier, the earth combines with the kelp used by farmers to fertilise their crops to produce the Bonnotte, a potato with a unique flavour. Take a seat at restaurant l'Étier, which uses it in an original way to create a cake dedicated to this beautiful ingredient, served with ice cream flavoured with the island's saffron.

4) Visit a salt producer

Near La Guérinière, Emmanuel and Yolande gladly welcome tourists to their La Nouvelle Brille salt marsh and are all too happy to show them around and explain the secrets to making this white gold... At the end of this free tour, you can stock up on salt directly from the producer in the small shop-hut. Charming!

5) Get closer than ever to birds

Located at the entrance to Noirmoutier, the Polder de Sébastopol has a collection of over 170 species of birds within reach (or binocular sight!) of nature lovers. Throughout the summer season, the Tourist Office offers free outings run by an organiser from the French Birds Protection League.
