La Ferme Milpas
Discover a farm growing Mexican specialities in the heart of the Mauges, near Sèvremoine.
We are Oriana and Marc and we are partners in the GAEC de Milpas, in the commune of Sevremoine, at a place called Le Petit Quarteron".On the Milpas farm, we produce vegetable, flower and herb seeds, maize for human consumption (Mexican specialities such as tortillas, sauces and other accompaniments) and a small herd of Charolais cows, all on a 26-hectare site.
We are a Franco-Mexican couple with a passion for agriculture, nature and good food. To rediscover the authentic flavours of Mexican cuisine, we needed to produce the primary ingredients ourselves, as they are not readily available here, let alone of AB quality.
Learning the ancestral know-how of certain recipes such as nixtamal was necessary in the same way that good wheat needs a good baker to express itself.
It is this combination of noble ingredients and know-how that enables us to bring you the flavours of Mexico.
We grow and propagate only population varieties (non-hybrid), and as such we help to maintain cultivated diversity.
We believe that the presence of animals on the farm is necessary for the overall coherence and balance of the farm. We need grassland to structure our soils and manure to fertilise our crops.
You can buy these products direct every 3rd Thursday of the month from 5pm to 7pm, at the Vergers du Pontonnet shop, at the Beaupréau AMAP or on the website.
