The GAEC du Bois de Boulle is first and foremost a family story... In 1961, the farm was founded by Jeannette and André Macé, dairy cow farmers. A few years later, their children Gérard, Philippe and Jacqueline, along with Philippe's wife Blandine, set up in their turn, with a view to diversifying the farm.
It was then that rabbits and laying hens took their place on the farm. Since then, the rabbits have been reared and processed on the farm (the laboratory has existed since 1987).
In recent years, the GAEC has continued to evolve, constantly adapting to new agricultural conditions. At the end of 2009, the decision was made to stop producing milk: it's not always easy to let go of part of your history, but you have to move with the times...
Today, the GAEC, which has five partners, Gérard, Philippe and their nephews Sébastien, Frédéric and Jérôme, specialises in raising rabbits, laying hens and beef cattle. The farm has a number of objectives:
- direct sales, something the family has always wanted to do, since milk rounds were first offered in 1966.
- organic farming, for the laying hens and the land since 2010, and for the cattle since March 2011.
- food self-sufficiency, with the aim of managing product quality even more precisely and increasing the economic efficiency of production.
Bois de Boulle products: Organic eggs, rabbit and rabbit-based preparations (pâté, rilettes, sausages, paupiettes, boudin) ; - in the markets of La Turballe and Guérande on Wednesdays and Saturdays - in the Brin d'herbe shops in Chantepie and Vezin (35) - in the Paniers Presqu'île association - at local markets in summer, in Kercabellec (Wednesday mornings), Kerhinet (Thursdays) and Ranrouët (Tuesday evenings) - in the shop at the Bergerie nationale in Rambouillet.
