LOIRE ET PATRIMOINE - LA MÉNITRÉ
This 12km loop takes you along the banks of the Loire and through a typical Loire village.
Your walk begins at Port Saint Maur, an exceptional site on the banks of the Loire, with a remarkable view over the Ile de Baure, the Abbey of St Maur and the village of Saint Mathurin sur Loire. After passing the Moulin de la Vierge (Virgin Mill), the story of which is told on a lectern, you will cross the town's main square, lined by the richly ornamented Mairie (Town Hall) and the church built in the early 19th century in the neo-Greek style. You will then pass by the Manoir Jeanne de Laval (15th century) and the Moulin Goislard. Their stories are told on the desks at the foot of each of these monuments. You will then pass through the Vendellières district, where the architecture of the houses is typical of the Valley (longères, elaborate dormer windows, etc.).After crossing the countryside, you'll return to the banks of the Loire to reach the staircase-shaped retting port, where the hemp bales are still tied.
