CIRCUIT DES ARCADES
Aqueducts with eight to ten arches make it easier to cross the Erdre valley from Nort sur Erdre.
A single 22km loop to discover the channel from the Belletière car park to the Vioreau dam and back.Set off on an unusual trail along the banks of the Nantes-Brest Canal feeder channel.
Also known as the "Petit Canal", the channel connects Lac de Vioreau to the Nantes-Brest Canal at the divide between the Pas d'Héric lock and the Coudrais bridge. It supplies water to the first section of the canal to compensate for the drop in water level caused by lockage and evaporation during the summer. Its construction is a technical masterpiece! With a gradient of just 14 cm per kilometre over a length of 21.3 km, the canal crosses the Erdre valley thanks to four aqueducts with eight to ten arches, and runs 600 m underground. It is also spanned by a number of picturesque little stone bridges...
During your walk, you can admire the Château de la Lucinière and its wooded estate on the other side of the Erdre Valley.
