On the Routes des Vins, take the Voyage dans le Vignoble, initiated by the Voyage à Nantes. This 118km wine tourism tour by car invites you to discover a variety of vineyard landscapes, natural sites and breathtaking heritage sites. Venture into the Nantes vineyards, home to some exceptional vintages, including the famous Muscadet, made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety.Departing from Nantes, this loop offers several stops to visit the must-see sites in the Nantes vineyards. Spend a day or two admiring the bucolic landscapes between the banks of the Sèvre Nantaise and the vineyards. In summer, there are plenty of cultural and culinary events along the way.
In Vertou, the Chaussée des Moines invites you to take a stroll along the banks of the Sèvre Nantaise. A few kilometres further on, in Château-Thébaud, discover the belvedere: the Porte-Vue, a veritable work of art by Emmanuel Ritz, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the cliffs and the Pont Caffino leisure centre on the riverbank. |
Feeling peckish? Further south on the route, the playground and picnic area at the pretty little port of La Haye-Fouassière is an ideal riverside stop-off. In summer, "Un dimanche au port" offers tastings of Muscadet and local specialities. Your mouth will water!
Take time to visit the Musée du Vignoble nantais at Le Pallet, then the Moulin du Liveau at Gorges, now a paper mill whose paddle wheel bears witness to the rich industrial past of the Sèvre nantaise. Admire the allure of Clisson "l'Italienne", a beautiful medieval town nestling around the remains of the fortified castle - a change of scenery guaranteed! You can also visit the Hellfest site, a not-to-be-missed festival for all metal music fans!
From Clisson, head for the Domaine de la Garenne-Lemot in Gétigné, a landscaped park created by an artist and sculptor, whose Maison du Jardinier, a fine example of Italian architecture, houses a superb exhibition. Along the way, you can visit emblematic heritage sites and taste Muscadet and grape juice in the tourist cellars along the route.
On the way back to Nantes, it's from the top of the Butte de la Roche, in Le Loroux-Bottereau, that you can admire a magnificent sunset over the vineyards, the Marais de Goulaine and the Château de Goulaine. This ancient fortified castle, the first on the Loire, is well worth a visit.
