Le Théâtre de Laval

The Théâtre de Laval, national centre for puppetry

Since 2007, the Théâtre de Laval has been a professional cultural establishment dedicated to all performing arts disciplines: theatre, dance, puppetry, contemporary music, classical music, circus arts, etc. All these forms of artistic expression are showcased throughout the cultural season.

While Le Théâtre is a generalist, multi-disciplinary structure, it particularly promotes the puppet arts and manipulated forms as a specialist field.

For around ten years, it was a "scène conventionnée d'intérêt national" for the puppet arts, before being awarded the "Centre national de la marionnette" label in 2020 by decision of the French Ministry of Culture, in recognition of the work it has done over the years to support the creation and dissemination of the puppet arts. This new status will bolster the Théâtre de Laval's artistic vitality and enable it to support the many facets of its project: creation, programming, artistic education, exhibitions, etc.

All of these are part of the day-to-day work of the Théâtre and its teams. The most important of these, of course, is access for all audiences to live performances and artistic activities. But this important aspect of programming and dissemination would be nothing without in-depth work, throughout the year, to support artists, audiences and local initiatives.
