Presentation of: LE HERON
Depart from the village centre of La Chapelle des Marais and follow the heron trail!
Along the way, you'll be able to observe the many birds that nest in the Brière Regional Nature Park, as well as discovering 5 communal bread ovens. The route also takes you across some of the islands in the Brière Regional Nature Park via the Québitre bridge.
We advise you to set off early to enjoy the mysterious atmosphere of the Brière marshes, between land and water. As the dew evaporates and the sun rises, you'll be struck by the immensity of the place and the calm that reigns. You can also admire the peat and the morta, two curiosities of the marsh used by the inhabitants for many years.
On this walk, you'll pass through a number of hamlets with thatched cottages typical of the Brière region. You'll be immersed in the history of this magnificent marshland, which for a long time was a secret reserve for the Briérons.
The heron trail is a must-see walk in the Brière Regional Nature Park, allowing you to discover the richness and diversity of this magnificent, unspoilt area.
What to see along the way :
- the landscapes, fauna and flora of the marshes
- the Québitre bridge
- the vernacular heritage: rogation crosses, wells and bread ovens (see fact sheet 25)
- the Fossés Blancs port, a starting point for boat trips
- the Bosse Martenne pit
