CIRCUIT DES COTEAUX DE LA MONTAGNE

Perched on its balcony, the commune overlooks the Loire Valley. It shares a small hilly forest with the neighbouring commune: the Bois des Fous.

The Circuit de La Montagne offers a wide variety of landscapes and many interesting sights. Accessible to all the family, from the youngest to the oldest, this walk will give you a commanding view of the Loire Valley.
At a glance, you'll see Cheviré, Haute-Indre and Basse-Indre. A little further on, you'll cross the Bois des Fous. The origin of its name comes from faou, which means "beech" in Breton. This wood is made up of many species of trees: beech, oak, chestnut, wild cherry, poplar, birch and a few field maples.
In spring, wild flowers brighten up the undergrowth. Another remarkable feature is the Château d'Aux. The Chevalier d'Aux de Bournay commissioned the famous architect Ceineray to build this vast residence in 1769. Monsieur d'Aux made his fortune from the pineapple plantations he owned in Saint-Domingue. The Revolution sounded the death knell for this magnificence. In 1791, the garrison moved into the ruined lord's château to protect the Indret cannon foundry. Today, the château is a children's home.
A little further on, between La Montagne and Bouguenais, you'll come across the village of Roche-Balue, whose port was very active from the 14th century onwards. Roche-Balue is the perfect place to daydream, and its narrow streets are the perfect place to get lost. Let yourself get lost and dream for a few moments in front of the little port: with a bit of luck, you'll see a boat arrive.
