CHALONNES-SUR-LOIRE - 23 - COTEAU SAINT-VINCENT
The vineyards of Angers, a great place to hike
Set off on a walk through the old quarters of Chalonnes and its countryside. You'll first take the GR3 towards Quai Gambetta, where you can admire the Loire, the Chalonnes bridge and its pretty houses. You will then head towards the Tour St Pierre, before taking a covered passageway to continue your walk through the narrow streets of Chalonnes. You'll make your way down a small passageway towards the banks of the Loire, before climbing back up to the St Vincent lime kilns. Get ready for a short climb up the path, where you will then walk alongside the Loire below. Keep an eye out for the river, which can be seen through the trees in some of the more open spots. You then leave the GR3 to continue on the yellow-marked trail. Most of the route takes you along a little-used country road, with a vineyard on your left. You'll pass along small paths around the fields in the heights of Chalonnes, peace and quiet guaranteed!Caution: to the north of the route, there is a narrow passage on the banks of the Loire, which can be bypassed by road (see general route map).
