L'église de Saint-Hilaire-de-Chaléons

The church at Saint-Hilaire-de-Chaléons replaced an earlier church ruined during the Revolution. The current church dates from the late 19th century. One of the church's original features is the carillon, which plays "La Paimpolaise", a song by Théodore Botrel, every hour on the hour.

A former church dates back to the Middle Ages. However, it was destroyed during the French Revolution. A wooden building was then erected to replace it. It was not until 1895 that a new church was built.

🖼️ The painting entitled "The Flight into Egypt" comes from the old church.

The stained glass windows represent Noë's Ark, Joan of Arc, Saint Louis, Saint Joseph with the Holy Family, the apparition of the Sacred Heart to Saint Marguerite Marie Alacoque...

The bell tower was only erected in 1930. It is topped by a hexagonal dome. Three bells (an E-flat, a G and an A-flat) are placed inside. The Angelus was rung at 7am, 12pm and 7pm. For a long time, these times set the rhythm of daily life. In 1947, three new bells were installed.

In 1948, a carillon was installed, sounding the tune of the "Paimpolaise" at high tide, a sea song created in 1895 by the singer-songwriter Théodore Botrel (1868-1925).
