Presentation of: EGLISE DE SAINT-MICHEL

This parish appears in various writings under the name of "Terra de Chevesche".

This church would have been given to the abbey of Saint Serge in Angers around 1104. In the 15th century, the church had two side altars, one dedicated to Saint Blaise, the other to Saint Mathurin.

The first stone of the new church was blessed on August 1, 1886. The church tower is surmounted by a statue of the Archangel Saint-Michel. The bell tower-porch is in the foreground. On each side of the bell tower, a staircase turret gives access to the middle level, lit by a large bay on the square.

Above is the clock, and probably on the same level, the chamber of bells with an octagonal section. On the four corners of the square entablature of the previous level stand small turrets with columns which complete the angles of the octagon.

Above is the stone spire, pierced by 4 small saddle-shaped windows, overlooking the 4 cardinal points. Finally, this spire is surmounted by an open lantern, itself also of octagonal section, surmounted by a small spire. The cross sits on the whole.

The church has three naves, a transept and a half-timbered apse. Two sacristies are attached to the transept arms. The building faces east (facade) to west and the famous Galettes Saint-Michel biscuit factory is a stone's throw away, on the other side of the departmental road 96 which crosses the city center.

Marine motifs decorate the interior, where you can also admire the remarkable set of stained-glass windows: on one side, on the left as you enter, you can see the life of the Virgin Mary and on the right the life of Jesus.

On the right when entering is also the chapel of the dead, and on the left that of the fonts.
