Caves troglodytiques de Cornille-les-Caves

In the charming village of Cornillé-les-Caves, more than 20 km of galleries were dug between the 16th and 19th centuries to extract the tufa stone needed to build the surrounding area. They were then used as shelters for equipment and animals, and as homes.

Since 1989, the Compagnons des Caves association has been organising guided tours of the caves, with the proceeds going towards financing work to develop the caves and adjoining land.

During the Heritage Days in September, the Compagnons site is open for two days, with a fouée tasting session, and the visit takes place in association with that of the Carpentry and its famous tower.

The association offers a range of events throughout the year, including tours, themed evenings
theme evenings, nativity scene exhibitions and Christmas tea parties, summer evenings and fouée tastings from time to time in conjunction with guided tours of the cellars.

The aim of these events is to bring the troglodyte site to life and help visitors discover the village, whose dynamism is well established. Cornillé-les-Caves, a listed heritage site since 1976 and a Village de Charme since 2012, is renowned for its beauty, harmony and quality of life.
