In 1921, Clémenceau retired to Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard.
He donated a clock to the commune and had it installed on a bell tower above the town hall (now the tourist office).
He wanted "the inhabitants to get into the habit of looking at the town hall rather than the church to tell the time".
