ETANG D'ABBARETZ

Pond at the Abbaretz mine

Mining did not cease until the late 1950s. Gradually, the face of the site changed, giving way to a wooded belt around a pond over 40 metres deep. The site is listed in the Departmental Plan of Spaces, Sites and Itineraries (PDESI), and is a popular venue for a wide range of outdoor sporting activities, including water-skiing, diving, mountain biking and hiking.

A site where nature also takes its place, observe several species:

8 bird species (out of 41 recorded) have been identified as potential or actual breeders on the site, 5 of which are vulnerable or near-threatened: linnet, whitethroat, common kingfisher, meadow pipit and alder tarin.

It is formally forbidden to fish from the shore or from a boat outside the events organised by the federation.
