L'Étang du Plessis Bergeret: A haven of peace and nature

The 8-hectare Plessis Bergeret pond is a real natural gem, fed by the Astiers stream. Formerly the property of the diocese of Luçon, the pond was a place of conviviality and festivities for the people of Yonnais until the 1960s, serving as a swimming pool and hosting events such as fairs and water jousts. These events were marked by a joyous and festive atmosphere, which is still etched in the local memory.

Since 2005, this area has been classified as a Sensitive Natural Area by the Vendée Department, in order to preserve its ecological richness and unique character. The expanse of the pond, with its calm waters and surrounding woods, creates a majestic atmosphere that's perfect for walking and discovering nature. The contrast between the pond and the wooded areas offers a variety of atmospheres that will delight nature lovers.

As part of its renovation, a 2.5km walkway was laid out in 2014 by the Vendée Department, with particular attention paid to accessibility. The site is now open to all, including people with disabilities, so everyone can enjoy this haven of peace to the full.

The Plessis Bergeret lake offers an ideal setting for nature lovers, but it is important to respect certain rules to preserve the ecological balance of the site. Fishing is prohibited in several specific areas of the lake and in the Astiers stream. A 'no kill' zone (compulsory release) has been set up for certain species such as pike, zander, black-bass and common perch. In addition, the use of live or dead fish as bait for these species is prohibited.

When the park was refurbished in 2014, the Conseil Départemental de la Vendée chose not to install litter bins on the site, to encourage walkers to adopt a responsible attitude towards the environment. We encourage you to take your rubbish with you and respect the natural beauty of this area.
