GR®8 - LITTORAL ATLANTIQUE
Leaving Saint-Brevin, at the foot of the Saint-Nazaire bridge, set off on the GR8 along the Atlantic coast for a postcard of varied landscapes!
Once used to prevent smuggling, the old customs path is easily accessible on foot and runs for around ten kilometres along the long sandy beaches of Saint-Brevin.
From the north to the south of the town, follow the red and white signs and discover the charm of this seaside resort with its typical villas and the intoxicating scents of pine trees or mimosa, depending on the season. You'll also come across a Serpent d'Océan (ocean snake), a fort-museum, old bunkers, fisheries - the wooden huts on stilts so characteristic of the Côte de Jade - and you'll be lulled by the sound of the waves as you cross the magnificent Pierre Attelée dune forest.
The GR8 long-distance footpath then continues to Pointe St Gildas in Préfailles (23km from the north of St Brevin) and on to the south of the Pays de Retz and the Vendée.
It is also one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela via the Atlantic coast.
