Did you know that the sand extracted from the Port-Saint-Père quarries was used to build many of the region's monuments and buildings? These include the Château de Nantes and Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Cathedral in Nantes.
The Trignac foundry, which used sand from Port-Saint-Père, was one of the largest in France in the 19th century. It produced castings for the shipbuilding industry, the railways and agriculture.
Port Hamoneau was once a major trading port. Salt, wine and agricultural products were exported here.
