Fancy a trip back to the heart of the 19th century? Discover the heritage and fascinating history of Montjean-sur-Loire on this 3.5-kilometre tour.
With friends or family, wander along the quays of the Loire, admire the Chevalement de la Tranchée overlooking the Loire and see the lime kilns, relics of the village's economic boom in the 19th century. After strolling through the narrow streets of Montjean, climb up to the church of Saint-Symphorien. From the top, take in the breathtaking scenery with the Loire as your backdrop. The vineyards, orchards and slate roofs typical of the region are a marvellous sight to behold from the ancient fortifications of the château of the lord of Montjean.
Along the way, 11 information panels explain the history of the commune. Numerous sculptures line the route, giving the streets and quays the air of an artist's village.
On the way, stop off at Cap Loire to discover the history of the Loire bargemen and the boats: the Cap Vert and the Montjeannaise.
