The gîte is located at the heart of the Roulière organic farm, in Foussais Payré, a small commune in south-eastern Vendée. It is part of a network of signposted footpaths and walks (pedestrian, mountain bike, equestrian) to discover the countryside, the Mervent Vouvant forest and, a little further afield, the Marais Poitevin (Nieul sur l'Autise 11km, Maillezais 17km, Coulon 25km). It is 60 km from La Rochelle or the beaches of La Faute sur Mer or Le Puy du Fou.
Locally, many service providers offer their services for outdoor activities, horse-riding, bike hire, beach, canoeing, sailing, rowing, electric boats, fishing, the environment, the zoo, etc., as well as introductions to skills such as chocolate-making, bread-making and basket-weaving, or for discovering the particularly rich and varied history and architecture of the southern Vendée (Vouvant, Abbayes, Le vieux Fontenay, Faymoreau, etc.) and even the unusual chainsaw sculptures created at Foussais Payré during the annual symposium.
