You'll be very welcome in Saint Aubin du Désert, a small, welcoming village close to the Alpes Mancelles, a real paradise for walkers. The commune has renovated the old school to create 2 independent gîtes. Les petits Blés d'or, on the ground floor with one bedroom, can accommodate up to 2 people. The circulation in the gîte, the bedroom and the shower room are suitable for people with reduced mobility.
You'll love the facilities (fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, fridge, freezer, small electrical appliances, washing machine, 2 comfortable twin beds, Italian shower, etc.), the cosy decor and access to hiking trails.
Local shops are 4.7km away in Courcité and even further away in Villaines la Juhel, 9km away.
Explore the Alpes Mancelles (15km), climb to the Mont des Avaloirs lookout, the highest point in the Armorican massif, on foot, by bike or on horseback. The paths are well signposted, the countryside is unspoilt and you'll discover some stunning views.
You can also visit Saint-Cénéri le Gerei, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, Fresnay sur Sarthe, a small town full of character, and Saint Léonard des Bois, which also offers a host of sporting activities including canoeing, tree climbing and mountain biking. Sillé le Guillaume, a former medieval fortress, offers a peaceful town with restaurants and shops, as well as a lake in the heart of the forest that is home to the Coco beach (swimming and water sports).
As you can see, Saint Aubin du Désert, a village in the Mayenne region, is ideally situated to make the most of the Alpes Mancelles, straddling 3 départements: Mayenne, Orne and Sarthe. The nearest large town for the train or golf is Alençon, just 31km away.

The commune offers a 2nd gîte on the site, on the 1st floor of the old school. Les grands Blés d'or, H53G023801, sleeps 12 with 4 bedrooms. Access is offset and not at all above Les Petits blés d'or. The whole building is 25 metres long, ensuring discretion for the small gîte.
